There are lots of public sector bodies across Wales working to tackle the causes and effects of climate change.

They are seeing real benefits from doing this, including financial savings, better use of their resources and becoming better able to cope with the effects of climate change such as extreme weather events, hotter drier summers, milder wetter winters and sea level rise.

Here is some information on how public sector bodies can reduce their carbon footprint, deal with the effects of climate change and learn from examples of what has been done already.

The Welsh Government has a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in areas that are devolved by 3% each year. The public sector has a crucial role to play in meeting this challenge.

The public sector in Wales includes:

  • Welsh Government;
  • Welsh Government sponsored bodies;
  • local authorities;
  • schools;
  • further and higher education institutions; and
  • the health service
